Six-Core Strategies

The Six Core Strategies© are evidence-informed approaches effective in reducing seclusion and restraint events. This whole-of-system approach was originally developed in the US by the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors Medical Directors Council (NASMHPD).

Trauma-Informed Care

Trauma-informed, resilience-oriented care is an organizational culture, structure and treatment framework built on understanding, recognizing and responding to all kinds of trauma.

Sanctuary Model

The aims of the Sanctuary model are to guide an organization in the development of a trauma-informed culture with seven dominant characteristics, all of which serve goals related to recovery from trauma-spectrum disorders while creating a safe environment for clients, families, staff, and administrators with measurable goals.

Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS)

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day.

Preventing and Managing Crisis Situations (PCMS)

PMCS is an Office of Mental Health program designed to provide inpatient staff with the skill necessary to prevent and manage crisis situations. With a focus on development of staff competencies in day to day effective interactions, the program presents elements of trauma-informed, recovery-focused and person-centered care.

Safety Care

Safety-Care® Behavioral Safety Training Safety-Care® is a training curriculum for staff that is designed to provide a set of strategies for safely and humanely providing support to individuals who may sometimes exhibit disruptive or dangerous behavior. These strategies include preventative measures and verbal de-escalation, as well as the use of physical management procedures.

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Helps residential child care organizations to create a trauma-sensitive environment where children and adults are safe and feel safe. Proactively prevent and/or de-escalate potential crisis situations with children. Manage a crisis situation in a therapeutic manner, and, if necessary, intervene physically in a manner that reduces the risk of harm to children and staff.

Zones of Regulation

The Zones of Regulation framework and curriculum (Kuypers, 2011) teaches students skills toward building awareness of their feelings/internal state and utilize a variety of tools and strategies for regulation, prosocial skills, self-care, and overall wellness. This includes exploring tools and strategies for mindfulness, sensory integration, movement, thinking strategies, wellness, and healthy connection with others.
